A box steel beam is a steel structural beam with a rectangular or approximately rectangular cross-section. Its cross-sectional shape presents a box-like appearance, hence its name. This kind of structural beam is usually composed of steel plates closed on all four sides, forming a hollow rectangular or nearly rectangular cross-section. Box steel beams are generally designed to provide high strength and stiffness while minimizing the dead weight of the structural beam. This type of structural beam is commonly used in bridges, building structures, mechanical equipment and other projects that need to withstand large loads. Due to the particularity of its cross-sectional shape, box-shaped steel beams have high bending stiffness and torsional stiffness when subjected to bending and shear forces, so they are widely used in engineering structural design.

Box steel beam

Features:

  ● The cross-section shape is reasonable, can withstand large loads and pressures, and has high strength and stiffness.

  ● It can effectively improve the stability of the structure and prevent structural deformation and instability.

  ● Steel has good weldability and is easy to weld.

  ● It has good corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of the atmosphere and corrosive media.

  ● Compared with concrete structures, box steel beams are lighter in weight and easier to transport and install.

Welding processing steps:

  ● Material preparation: Prepare steel plates of appropriate size and thickness, and cut them into corresponding sizes according to design requirements for welding and assembly.

  ● Preparation for docking: dock the cut steel plates to ensure that the joint surfaces between the plates are flat, clean, and meet the angle and size required by the design.

  ● Welding process selection: Select the appropriate welding process according to the design requirements and material characteristics. Common ones include manual arc welding, gas shielded welding (such as MIG/MAG welding), electroslag welding, etc.

  ● Welding process parameter setting: Set welding current, voltage, wire diameter, gas flow and other parameters according to the material and thickness of the steel plate to ensure welding quality and stability.

  ● Welding: Carry out the welding process to weld the joined steel plates. Generally, multiple passes of welding are required to ensure full penetration of the weld and a firm connection.

  ● Turn over and continue welding: perform the same welding process on the other side of the box-shaped steel beam to ensure that the welds on both sides are even and strong.

  ● Inspection and trimming: After completing the welding, conduct visual inspection and dimensional inspection of the weld, and trim and correct if necessary to ensure that the welding quality meets the requirements.

  ● Follow-up treatment: Follow-up processes such as slag removal, grinding, and anti-rust treatment may be required to ensure the surface quality and anti-corrosion performance of the box-shaped steel beams.

Box steel beams are used in a wide range of applications, including building structures, bridges, ships, vehicles, machinery and other fields. For example, in building structures, box-shaped steel beams can be used for support and load-bearing of roofs, floors, walls, etc.; in bridges, box-shaped steel beams can be used for main beams, beams, supports, etc.; in ships , Box-shaped steel beams can be used for support and load-bearing of hulls, decks, cabins, etc.

Marine structure welding part

Marine structure welding and painting is the most process in the shipbuilding industry. Welded joints as compared to riveted joints are much easier to produce and they reduce the cycle time of the project. Welded joints have also resulted in reduced steel weight and require less to negligible maintenance compared to rivet joints.
